This Beautiful American Akita is called Cali, which is short for California. Cali’s portrait was painted in pastels and is the frame size 18” x 14”. The portrait is to be a gift for a birthday.
American Akita Portrait – Client Instructions
My client wanted the background to be a dark Smokey colour with an ornate gold frame so it would fit in with other paintings in the house. They had some lovely photos of their American Akita for me to work from. She sent one, which she wanted as the portrait and other photos that showed the colouring and character. It is nice to see other photos of the pet so I can get the feel for the character. It isn’t necessary though, so if you only have the one photo that is fine.

You will see I have taken work in progress photos to show how I build up the layers. Starting from the sketch and then building up the layers to the final finished portrait.
