Pet Portraits From Photos by Animal artist Lorraine Gray
| Photographs just can't do justice to our much cherished, beloved pets.|
That's why I offer affordable pet portraits drawn in pastels, oils or Acrylics just for you from your favourite photo.
Most people consider their dog, cat, horse, or other pet part of the family.
They give you the unconditional love that only an pet can give. They're loyal, loving, forgiving, sensitive, and they're always there when you need a friend. The memories you share with a pet are often among the most precious you will ever make.
It is this devotion that makes a Pastel or Oil pet portrait of your cat, dog, horse or any animal a perfect gift for any occasion. Or even for yourself! Through out my galleries you will find a selection of my favourite pet portraits, animal paintings, dogs, cats and horse portraits produced in the finest pastels, oils and Acrylics.
I love being a pet portrait artist. Animals are such beautiful creatures to paint in pastels, oils or acrylics. There are so many breeds and types of animals. All of which have their own personality, fur texture, size, colour, spirit. I love animals and can't think of any subject I would rather paint than dogs, cats, horses, wildlife, the list goes on.
How I Work (see demonstration further down on this page)
Only the finest quality pastels are used and painted on Hahnemuhle FineArt Velour paper. Velour gives you a soft real look to the painting.
Oils are painted Professional stretched canvas.
New for 2007 are Oil paintings.
From Photograph to Pet Portrait Paintings

| I have been asked many times how I work, so I have put together a small demonstration on the process of creating my paintings.|
High quality pastels are applied on soft beautiful velour paper, giving the painting a luxurious realistic velvety finish.
The following pictures show how a portrait comes together using Velour paper.
First, outlines and base colours are put down. Deeper tones are applied and more Texture and highlights are laid down. Attention is given to the eyes and fur texture is given to the coats. Highlights in the coat help create a thick soft texture. Highlights in the eyes provide life and emotion.

I just had to write to say thank you for the wonderful image you've created - it's almost like having Raffles back in the room! The detail you've created is fantastic, with his beady eye watching me, as was always the case. I know my husband will be thrilled with it at Christmas.
